ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away

ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away is a specialist stone cleaner formulated to tackle rust outbreaks and brown discolouration caused by naturally occurring iron deposits within ferrous hardstones.

Natural stone can contain traces of iron. When these particles come into contact with moisture from rain, cleaning or environmental conditions, they can oxidise. As a result, unsightly brown or rust-coloured staining can develop within the stone. Certain acid-based cleaning products can also accelerate this oxidation process.

ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away has been specifically developed to target this type of staining. Its acid-based formulation alters the rust particles responsible for the discolouration, helping to remove visible brown and rust stains from suitable natural stone surfaces.

In addition, the formulation contains specialist rust-preventing ingredients designed to provide a longer-term effect and help reduce the risk of iron staining returning.

The powerful cleaning action can also remove cement, mortar and salt residues, making Iron Stain Away a useful treatment for both restoration and post-installation cleaning.

Why Does Iron Staining Occur?

Some natural stones contain small amounts of naturally occurring iron. Exposure to moisture can cause these iron particles to oxidise, resulting in brown or rust-coloured marks appearing on the surface.

This can occur naturally through exposure to rain and moisture. However, certain acid-based cleaners, including some brick acids and cement removers, may also accelerate the oxidation process.

ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away is formulated specifically to address this problem by treating the rust particles within suitable hard natural stone.

Iron Stain Away is suitable for acid-resistant, unpolished natural stone, including:

Important Surface Information

ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away is an acid-based cleaner and should not be used on highly polished natural stone.

Its effectiveness is also limited on rough or textured limestone and marble. Always check that the stone is acid resistant and test the product on a small, inconspicuous area before full application.

For natural stone affected by internal iron oxidation, ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away provides a specialist treatment that tackles the source of the discolouration while helping reduce the likelihood of staining returning.

Directions For Use

• Application: shake well before use.
• Preparation: Ensure that the surface to be treated is cool and completely free from loose matter before application. Always test on an inconspicuous area prior to general use. Extremely severe cases use un-diluted. Severe cases dilute 1:2 with water. Mild cases dilute 1:3 with water. Apply the solution to the surface and spread out evenly, garden sprayers can be used. For severe cases surfaces should be agitated using a short haired scrubbing brush or black nylon scrubbing pad. After 3–6 hours, rinse with plenty of clean water. If traces remain after a couple of days repeat the process. After treatment the surface should be protected from water.
• Further treatment: Sealing with an impregnating sealer such as ECOPROTEC Colour Enhancing Sealer will help to render the surface resistant to water penetration, greatly reducing the possibility of rust discolouration from returning.

Notes

Not suitable for use on surfaces such as polished limestone, marble, enamel, zinc or other acid sensitive metals and materials. Some stones may become slightly darker following application. This effect will gradually fade after some time. For single spots of surface rust use ECOPROTEC Rust Stain Remover. Do not use when surface temperatures are under 5°C or over 25°C.

Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation. Keep out of reach of children. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection. IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention. Store locked up.
